The customary of Valentine's Day

Valentine's Day is also called Saint Valentine's Day, which is celebrated on February 14. It is a customary holiday that citizen express their sweet love by exchanging Valentine's cards, presenting flowers, sending chocolate or any other gifts. Do you know the origin of the holiday?

There are two ways to clarify the origin.

1. It said that citizen were forbidden to get married and married couples were asked to abolish engagement at about A.D. 3 in Roma. A clergyman called Valentine could not bear this rule and presided over the wedding ceremony for lovers. The tyrant in Roma was very angry about him, then the clergyman was tortured to death. He was dead on February 14. After his death, citizen celebrated every year to remember him, and then called it Valentine's Day.




2. Valentine, who was a Christian martyr, condemned the oppression from the Roman Kingdom. He called for all the Christian to fight against, but he was arrested. In the jail, he fell in love with the daughter of the jail leader; at last he was killed on February 14. The Christian and the youth called the day ''Valentine's Day'' to wish the lovers all around the world be happy forever.

Actually, no matter what the real origin is, Valentine's Day is from the old traditions and named from the Saint Christian. The day is celebrated for love. On Valentine's Day, every projection of city will be filled with love and happiness. All the lovers will be more beautiful than flowers and sweeter than chocolate.
